Ruth L. Gosnell, 79, of Iowa City, died Monday March 3, 2008 at Mercy Hospital following a short illness. Funeral Services will be held Friday, March 7, 2008 at 10:00 am at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church with Pastor Timothy Zimmermann officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday March 6, 2008 from 4-8 pm at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Ave, Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church or Visiting Nursing Association of Johnson County or the donor’s local Hospice.

Ruth was born on February 28, 1929 in rural York Township to Arnold and Cora (Wiebold) Wardenburg. She married Howard C. Gosnell on June 20, 1948 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in York Township, near Williamsburg. Ruth was head housekeeper for over 28 years for many hotels in the Iowa City/Coralville area before retiring from the Canterbury Inn. Ruth enjoyed playing cards, gardening, fishing, mushroom hunting and spending time with her family.

Ruth is survived by three sons: Dale (Sue) of Conroy, Dennis (Katherine) of Solon, Steven of Atalissa, five grandchildren; Ann Kleinmeyer (Blake), Greg, Tumara, Tyson (Candice) and Amanda Kaalberg, seven great grandchildren, three sisters; Shirley Burns (Clark) of Oxford, Marge Campbell of Oxford, Janet Carrier (Don) of Bellevue and several nieces and nephews.

Ruth’s family would like to thank the Visiting Nurse Association of Johnson County, Rosehaven Nursing Home in Marengo and Amenity Hospice for their loving care of Ruth.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two sisters Edith and Elaine.
