Frederick Conrad Krause was born November 26, 1931, in Sydney, NE, the son of Frederick A. and Emma Dorothy (Hart) Krause. Following graduation from Sioux City East High School, he attended and graduated from Morningside College there in Sioux City. Fred joined the Air National Guard in Sioux City. On a tour in Maine, Fred met Dorothy E. "Dottie" Lynch. They were later united in marriage on December 31, 1951. He began a career in banking by accident, during his years in the Air National Guard; they approached him to start a credit union on base. This became a passion with him, leading to a career that spanned many years in the banking profession. He was with Collins Credit Union in Cedar Rapids where he held the position of assistance manager. Years later he joined University of Iowa Credit Union where he became president and general manager. The University of Iowa Credit Union grew under his management from a small office in the Old Dental Building to a business that had 7 locations at the time of his retirement. Over the years he belonged to numerous organizations and associations, locally, within the state, and on a national level.
Fred and Dottie have lived in this area for many years, enjoyed spending over twenty winters in Yuma, Arizona, and a number of summers at Lake Delhi.
Fred's family includes his children, Donna Krause of New Smyrna Beach, FL; Fred Krause Jr. "Rick" and special friend, Bonnie Manary of Iowa City; and Mark Krause and his wife, Christine of Rockford, IL; 5 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, sister, Sally Heimerman of Stillwater, MN; and cousin, Tom Raurtekas, of Bakersfield, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Dottie, on October 16, 2005.
