Ryan P. Zimmerman , 26, of 4371 Indian Trail NE, Solon died Monday, October 15, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center in Clinton following a brief illness..

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10am, Saturday, October 20, 2007 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Solon with Rev. David Wilkening and Rev. Ed Fitzpatrick. Burial will be at Memory Gardens, Iowa City. Friends may call from Friday from 3 to 8pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Solon, where a Vigil Service will be held at 7pm. In lieu of flowers, the Ryan P. Zimmerman Memorial Fund has been established at Solon State Bank.

Ryan was born July 19, 1981 in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Don “Fred” and Patricia Breese Zimmerman.

Ryan was a graduate of Solon High School, where he had been manager for the boy’s basketball team senior year. He received his Associate Arts degree in marketing from Kirkwood College, where Ryan served as a student ambassador and was a member of DECCA. He served as a state officer for DECCA. Ryan attended Iowa State University for two years, and in May graduated from Mt. Mercy College with a degree in administrative management. Ryan delivered the commencement address to his fellow graduates at Mt. Mercy. Ryan recently moved to DeWitt, where he was employed in the call center at Ashford College.

During his college years Ryan completed a six month internship at Disney World in Orlando and had been employed at the Olive Garden in Coralville. Ryan had worked at radio station, B100, in Davenport, where he was a radio personality known to listeners as “J.C.”.

Ryan was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Solon, and often attended the Newman Catholic Student Center in Iowa City. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #12129 in Solon.

Ryan was a friend to many. His outgoing personality and sense of humor brought smiles to many. Ryan was a true gentleman, who was polite and courteous to others. He loved his collie, Hogan, who died two years ago. Ryan and Hogan enjoyed being together outside, and often explored the land and lakes near home. Ryan was a loving son, brother and friend who will be greatly missed.

Ryan is survived by his parents, Don ”Fred” and Patricia of Solon and his sisters, Melissa “Missy” and Nicole “Nikki”, both at home; numerous aunts and uncles, including Mary (Kevin) James, a special aunt and friend; numerous cousins; and the family pets, Molly and Kai.

Ryan was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Edna Zimmerman and Merle and Velma Breese; one aunt, Cindy Hickey.
