Ethel Mae Nicola age 92 of Iowa City died on Thursday, November 21, 2002 at Lantern Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Coralville following a short illness. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Monday, November 25, 2002 at the Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2 to 5 pm at the funeral home, memorials are to Lantern Park or Iowa City Hospice.

Ethel was born on June 20, 1910 near Riverside the daughter of Grant U. and Eva F. Younkin Thompson, she attended rural schools and graduated from Riverside High School. She married J. Robert Nicola on November 10, 1932 in Rock Island, Illinois and was a mother wife and homemaker for her family.

Ethel’s family includes a daughter: Maxine and husband, Jack Bertling of Nixon, Texas, two sons: Dennis and wife Sharon Nicola of Lone Tree and Marvin and wife, Cherie Nicola of Davenport, a daughter in-law Nina Nicola of Iowa City, seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

Her parents, husband, two sons, Robert E. and Leslie D. Nicola and one grandson preceded her in death. The Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service are caring for Ethel’s family and her services.
