Jean Louise Swails, age 54 of 605 Greenwood Drive, Iowa City died Thursday, November 7, 2002 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Monday, November 11, 2002 at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with burial at the Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be after 1:00 p.m., Monday until services at the funeral home. Memorial donations can be made in Jean’s memory to the Mercy Hospital Guild. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Jean’s services and her family.

Jean was born November 17, 1947, in Iowa City, the daughter of Daryl and Edith (Goody) Swails. She lived at Woodward State Hospital before moving back to Iowa City where she lived at Chatham Oaks until moving to Greenwood Manor in Iowa City.

Jean’s family includes her mother, Edith Swails of Iowa City; a brother and his wife, Jerry Swails and Chris Taylor of Iowa City; aunts, Ella Harris and Elaine Swails both of Iowa City, Ellen and her husband, Harry Berg of California, Martha Swails of Des Moines, and Dorothy Swails of Englewood, Florida; and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father, Daryl Swails, grandparents and several uncles.
