Catherine Pechman Mills, 89, of Atrium Village in Hills, died at Crestview Nursing & Rehab Center in West Branch on Sunday, November 3, 2002, following a lengthy illness.

A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday at 11:00am at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hills, Iowa with Reverend Louis Leonhardt officiating. Friends may call Tuesday from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City – where a parish vigil service will be held at 7:00 PM. Burial will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Crestview Nursing & Rehab Center in West Branch.

Catherine was born November 2, 1913, in Hills, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph & Emma (Burger) Draker. She graduated from St. Mathias High School in Muscatine, Iowa. Catherine married Elmer Pechman January 15, 1935. The couple lived on a farm north of Lone Tree for many years. Mr. Pechman died in 1964. On March 7, 1970, Catherine married Milburn Mills in Iowa City. Mr. Mills died in 1979. Catherine was also a homemaker. She has been a resident at Atrium Village since 1981.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Joseph’s Altar & Rosary Society, Friends Club and Town & Country Club, both of Hills, Iowa City Eagle’s Ladies Auxiliary and Iowa City Women Of The Moose.

She is survived by three children, Joyce Brenneke & her husband David of West Branch, Mary Ernst of Davenport and John Pechman of Hills; seven step-children, Beverly Freyermuth & her husband Paul of Waverly, Tennessee, Gaylord Mills & his wife Debbie of Muscatine, Iowa, Darrell Mills & his wife Ann of Lafayette, Louisiana, Sandy Allan & her husband Wendell of Yarmouth, Iowa, Chris Schlabaugh & her husband Duane of Parnell, Iowa, Sid Mills & his wife Pam of Iowa City and Van Mills & his wife Diane of Skull Valley, Arizona; 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 25 step grandchildren; 56 step-great grandchildren; and a special friend, Stanley Hirt of Hills.

Catherine was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, two sisters, Cecelia Lorack & Agnes Kline, an infant brother, Frankie Draker, three brothers, Charles, Arthur & Robert Draker, two son in laws, Walter Juels & Gerald Yakish and three step-grandchildren.
