Gale D. Stone, 62, of 1013 Dover Street in Iowa City, died suddenly at his home on Monday, May 14, 2007.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 10:30 am at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Iowa City with The Very Reverend Rudolph T. Juarez officiating. Friends may call Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City where a parish rosary will be held at 7:30 pm. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials are directed to the American Cancer Society or St. Patrick’s Church Building Fund.

Gale was born March 20, 1945 in Sioux Rapids, Iowa, the son of R. Carl & Dorothy (Benson) Stone.
He graduated from Webb Community High School in Webb, Iowa and married Alice Elbert February 17, 1968 in Algona, Iowa.

Gale served in the United States Navy from 1964 – 1984 as a cryptologist. He also worked as a supervisor for 22 years at the Veteran’s Administration Medical Center in Iowa City, retiring in March of this year. Gale was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Iowa City and the American Legion in Dickens, Iowa.

Survivors include his wife Alice; a daughter Carla Hart, her husband Jon and their daughters Kristin & Allison, all of Urbandale; a son Erik Stone of Des Moines; brother, Robert Stone & his wife Shirley of Houston, Texas; sisters, Pamela Dean & her husband Gerald of Grand Island, Nebraska and Niki Jones & her husband Mark of Dickens, Iowa, brothers and sisters in law, Dennis Elbert & his wife Rosalie of Iowa City, Helen Casey & her husband Marion of LuVerne, Iowa, Jim Elbert & his wife Patricia and Raymond Elbert & his wife Carrie, all of Algona and many nieces and nephews.

Gale was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Carol.
