Mr. William H. Crawford

May 14, 1912 - September 16, 2002

William H. “Bill” Crawford, 90, of Iowa City, died Monday at Mercy Hospital following a sudden illness.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday at Lensing’s Oak Hill, 210 Holiday Road, Coralville. Private family services and burial will be held later. Memorial donations may be made to the William Crawford Memorial Fund.

Mr. Crawford was born May 14, 1912, in Peoria, Illinois, the son of Charles and Mamie Smith Crawford. He married Bert Williams March 9, 1934, in Peoria, Illinois.

He attended Brown’s Business College and was one of eight owners of Peoria Jewelry. He and his family moved to Iowa City in 1944. He worked as a bookkeeper-accountant and later as freight manager for General Services for the University of Iowa for 32 years.

Mr. Crawford was a life member of the Iowa City Elks, a life member of the Nebraska-Iowa Kiwanis Foundation, a charter member of the Golden K Kiwanis and a life member of T.P.A. He was a ten-year volunteer for SCORE and a ten-year volunteer with his wife at the Iowa City Senior Center. He was a member of AARP where he served as Treasurer and on the Board of Directors and was a member of the Council Elders at the Iowa City Senior Center. He had also served as the secretary for the Jefferson Hotel in downtown Iowa City.

Survivors include: his wife, Bert; his daughter Patti Mott and her husband John of Iowa City; his son, William “Bill” Crawford and his wife Carol of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren: Vicki Lensing and her husband Rich Templeton of Iowa City, Lisa and Aurora Mott of Iowa City, Brett Mott of Aiea, Hawaii, Ann Klees and her husband Marty of Cedar Rapids, and Tara Mott and her fiancé John Helmsley of St. Paul, Minnesota; three great-grandchildren, Amanda Lensing of Chicago, Illinois, and Alex and Nick Lensing of Iowa City; and one cousin, John Allsworth of Peoria, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his son, Charles.
