Ruby E. Hogan, 93, of 2129 Taylor Avenue, Iowa City, died October 21, 2002, at Mercy Hospital.

Funeral services will be 11:00AM Friday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Rev. James Vrba officiating. Friends may call on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00PM at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City. A parish vigil service will be held at 7:00PM on Thursday. Memorials may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church or American Cancer Society.

Ruby was born August 18, 1909, the daughter of Adam and Olive (Hall) Michel. She was the youngest of their eleven children. On February 16, 1927, she was united in marriage to Cletus Hogan. Their first years of married life were spent in Chicago and then Hills, Iowa. In 1933, the couple moved to Iowa City.

Ruby enjoyed card playing, reading and crafts. She was also an avid Hawk and Chicago Cub fan. She and Cletus were a great dancing couple and when she noticed that she was not going to be able to spend time with Cletus in the summer because he golfed, she became a golfer and became quite good at it.

She worked in the kitchen of St. Patrick’s Grade School and took over late as Head Cook. She and Cletus both retired the same year 1972. She will be remembered lovingly by her remaining family and they agree that everybody should have such a great mother.

She is survived by her three children, Joan Washburn, J. Michael “Mick” Hogan and Patrick Hogan all of Iowa City, Iowa. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Stephen Washburn, Michael Hogan and Jennifer Hogan Griffin, and two great grandchildren, Lauren and Jeffrey Griffin, and her sister, Juanita Michel Martin of Sun City, Arizona.

Her parents, her husband, Cletus, son-in-law, Leo Washburn, and a daughter-in-law, Sheila Hogan, preceded her death.
