Edwin Robert Eldeen age 75 a resident of the Iowa Veteran’s Home in Marshalltown, and formerly of Iowa City and North Liberty, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 15th 2002 after a long illness in Marshalltown. The Family will greet visitors on Sunday, October 20th, 2002 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. There will be an Oddfellows service at 6: p.m. with memorial service immediately following. Memorials may be given to the Ed Eldeen memorial fund.

Ed was born on December 21st, 1926 in Hitchcok, South Dakota to Charles Emil and Alta Edith Eldeen. He attended Calvin Coolidge School in Beadle County, S.D. and Broadland High School in Broadland, S.D. He was a United States Army Veteran, serving in the Pacific Rim during World War II.

He married Carol Nielie Crawford on August 18th, 1948 in Gettysburg, S.D. They moved to Iowa and were married until her death in 1965. He was re-married to Carol Jean Maresh on December 18th, 1970 and they moved to Vero Beach, Florida in 1985. Ed moved back to the Iowa City area in 1992.

Ed worked for Earl Yoder Construction until forming E-G Construction with Ernie Galer in the early 1970’s. He also worked in construction in Vero Beach, Fl. until his retirement in 1991. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Iowa City, the Fraternal Order of the Oddfellows (Past Noble Grand), and the Iowa City Homebuilders Association (Past President). He also coached Little League baseball for 18 years and girl’s softball for two years. He loved golfing, playing cards, bowling and fishing. He was considered a teacher and mentor by many.

He is survived by four daughters; Edith Eldeen of Mililani, Hi, Katheren Hoyt and husband Andrew of Coralville, Karen Ruth and her “boyfriend” Bill Ruth of Tiffin, Amelia Eldeen of Miami, Fl. three sons; Walter Eldeen, David Conger-Eldeen and wife Cari of Arvada, Co., Daniel Eldeen of Ft. Pierce, Fl. and two daughter-in-laws; Carole Ann Eldeen of Iowa City, and Danelle Eldeen of Tiffin. Ed is also survived by two brothers: Richard Eldeen of West Springfield, NH. Delmar Eldeen of Gettysburg, S.D. three sister; Agda Alt of North Liberty, Nina Wager of Gettysburg S.D. and Berta Genzler of Tulare S.D.; fourteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

His parents, a son Elden, his first wife great-grandson, six brothers and one sister preceded him in death. The Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation and Service are caring for Ed services and his family.
