Robert H. Peterson, 80, of 612 6th Avenue, Coralville, died Tuesday evening, October 1, 2002, at Mercy Hospital following a lengthy illness.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 7, 2002, at the Coralville United Methodist Church, 806 13th Avenue, Coralville, with the Reverend Doug Williams officiating. A reception will follow. Friends may greet his family from noon until service time Monday at the church. Burial will be held at a later date. Mr. Peterson has donated his body to the University of Iowa Deeded Body Program. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Coralville United Methodist Church. Robert Henry Peterson was born January 15, 1922, in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Austin Gilbert and Lola Bernice (Fildes) Peterson. He was raised and educated in the Manson, Iowa area. He enlisted in the Merchant Marines and served during WWII. He was united in marriage to Margaret Jean Bottom on January 5, 1945, in Des Moines, Iowa. The couple moved to Coralville in 1964 and he was employed as an office supervisor for Universal Climate Control until his retirement in 1988 after 24 years. He was a member of the Coralville United Methodist Church, the Loyal Order of the Moose and had volunteered over 5000 hours at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Pastoral Services.

Bob is survived by his wife, Jean of Coralville, two sons, Mark Peterson of Fort Madison, Iowa, Daniel Peterson and his wife, Nancy of Oxford, Iowa, six grandchildren; Nicole and her husband Eric Jones, Melissa and her husband Danny Hummer, Joshua and his wife Tanya Peterson, Brice, Neil and Luke Peterson, five great-grandchildren, Kitiara, Madison, Zachary, Catherine Ann and Hallie, two sisters, Kathryn Nereim and her husband Thomas of Iowa City, and Dolores Cavanaugh of San Diego, California.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father and an infant daughter.
