Esther Lafern Coblentz, age 55 of 2128 South Riverside Drive, Iowa city died Thursday, June 27, 2002 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics following a sudden illness.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 2, 2002 at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with the Reverend Curtis Miller officiating. Burial will be at the East Union Mennonite Cemetery near Kalona. Visitation will be from 12 noon until services at the fuenral home. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Services of Iowa City are caring for Esther’s services and her family.

Esther was born November 27, 1946 in rural Johnson County, Iowa the daughter of Christ and Edna (Thomas) Coblentz. For many years she worked in the laundry area of St. Lukes Hospital in Cedar Rapids, and prior to that for New Process Cleaners in Iowa City.

She has been an Iowa City resident most of her life, enjoying with a passion fishing.

Her family includes, her step-mother, Geraldine Coblentz of Tiffin; sisters, Dorothy and her husband, Harold Vesely of Iowa City, Katie and her husband, Chester Miller of Central City, Shirley Gilbert of Goshen, IN, Mary Ellen and her husband, Randy Madden of Tiffin, Helen Coblentz of Iowa City, and Arlene Coblentz of Riverside; brothers, Dewayne Coblentz of Tiffin, Everett Coblentz of Iowa City, and Danny and his wife, Joyce Coblentz of Shellsburg, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and two infant sisters.
