Juanita “Nita” E. Gerdes age 49 of North Liberty died following a long illness on Saturday, July 20, 2002 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinic’s in Iowa City. Funeral Services will be on Wednesday, July 24 at 1 pm at the Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, Inurnment will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4 to 8 pm at the funeral home where a memorial in Juanita’s name has been established. The Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service are caring for Juanita and her family.

Juanita was born on January 15, 1953 in Iowa City the Daughter of Otto and Mary Ellen (Sentman) Sasina. She attended City High School in Iowa City and married Greg Gerdes on May 23, 1970 in Iowa City, they were later divorced. She worked at Thomas and Beets in Iowa City until failing health forced her to retire in 1988, Juanita lived in Coralville until moving to North Liberty to live with her daughter in 2001. She enjoyed crafts and her computer and loved her dog cody. Her family includes two daughters; Bobbi and William Halstead of North Liberty and Paula Gerdes of Coralville, one grandson Devon Halstead; two brothers Jerry and Mary Sasina of Iowa City and Chris and Myrna Sasina of Monticello, two sisters: Kathy and David Wittenberg of Ainsworth and Tammy Hayslett of Coralville along with fourteen nieces and nephews.

Her parents preceded her in death.
