Malcolm “Mac” Gore age 77 of West Branch and formerly of Iowa City died from complications of a stroke on Wednesday, September 25, 2002 at Crestview Care Center in West Branch. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 am on Wednesday, October 2, 2002 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Iowa City. Burial with military rites provided by the Coralville American Legion, with assistance from other local organizations will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4 to 7:30 pm with a Vigil Service at 6:30 pm at the Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City and from 9 am until service time Wednesday at the church. Memorials may be given to City High School to benefit the Science Departments and sent to Iowa City, City High School, 1900 Morningside Dr., Iowa City, Iowa 52245-4670.

Mac was born on June 20, 1925 at Lynnville, Indiana the son of Hurschel and Phylis Flellnor Gore. He graduated from Mason City High School and attended the University of Iowa until he joined the Army in 1943 where he served until 1945. He was a teacher in Keokuk, Iowa and Belleview, Nebraska before returning to the University of Iowa to receive his Master’s Degree in Education. On December 19, 1948, he married Shirlee “Lee” McBride in Cedar Rapids. From 1957 until his retirement in 1988, he taught Chemistry at Iowa City’s, City High School. He was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and American Legion. Mac enjoyed woodworking; he made many different pieces of furniture in his spare time. In 1996 due to failing health, he moved to West Branch.

His family includes one son: Bob and wife Lois of Ft. Collins, Colorado, three grandchildren: Tom and wife Mary of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, John of Los Angles and Alexandra of Fort Collins along with one great grandson Austin.

His parents and his wife preceded him in death. The Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service are caring for Mac’s services and his family.
