Darrel L. Jones, age 66 of 3042 Muscatine Avenue, Iowa City died Wednesday, July 24, 2002 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics following a long illness.

Memorial services will be held at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 31, 2002 at the New Life Community Church in Coralville with the Reverend John White officiating. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his memory. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City is caring for Darrel’s services and his family.

Darrel was born September 3, 1935 in McGregor, Iowa the son of Francis and Lois (Clark) Jones. He graduated from high school in McGregor, and later joined the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He had married Lillian Thomann in 1982 in Colorado. She died in 1984. For most of his life he has worked with horses, being a farrier. Also for a number of years he was employed in the construction field. He has spent most of his life in the state of Iowa with the exception of several years in Colorado.

He was a member of the American Quarter Horses Association, American Farrier Association, and the Gold Prospectors Association.

His family includes a son and his wife, Michael and Rosa Jones of Oxford, daughter, Daylene Cox of Iowa City, and a step-daughter, Michelle and her husband, Gerry Howard of Iowa City, three grandchildren, Shannon Kacena, William and David Cox; brother William Jones of Colorado, sisters, Vickie Kleinow of McGregor, Margaret Harris of Tucson, AZ, Joanell Paeske of Monona, IA, Betty Klotzbach of Plattsville, Wisc, and Marian Eickmeyer of Seary, AK; and special friend, Janet (Jones) Beckwith of Oxford.
