Rudy W. Scheler, 68, of Hills died Sunday, January 21, 2007 at
UIHC following an illness.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Rudy’s life will be held at 4pm, Thursday,
January 25, 2007 at the Eagle’s Lodge, 225 Hwy 1 West, Iowa City.
Following the service friends are welcome to attend a reception, which will be held until 7pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may directed to the Eagle’s Charities or the Hill’s Fire Department. Arrangements are with Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service.

Rudy was born September 7, 1938 in Hamburg, Germany, the son of Willie and
Martha Nitz Scheler. Rudy and his mother immigrated to the States following World War II. In 1947 they settled in Bismarck N.D., where Rudy went on to become a four year letterman in four high school sports. While in Bismarck he co-owned The Antique and Coin Shop. He served in the US Army.

In 1974 Rudy moved to Iowa City where he began his towing career with Paul Poulsen Towing. He continued his work there when the business was purchased by Dick Hobbs, and later Russell’s Towing, which he managed for Gordon Russell. On November 22, 1986 he married Paulette Gebel in Iowa City.

Rudy managed Wilke’s Lounge and The Gas Co. Inn. He enjoyed collecting antiques and coins. Rudy was a devoted member of the Eagles Club, where he served as the Chaplain and membership chairman.

He will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father, and a doting grandfather. The depth of Rudy’s knowledge in leadership, sports, statistics, obscure trivia, and the ability to entertain, love and sometimes just be there will be his legacy. He will not be forgotten.

Rudy is survived by his wife, Paulette; his daughter Deb (Randy) Nissley of Hills;
and two granddaughters, Sara and Maggie Michel.

He was preceded in death by his parents and Deb’s mother Joyce.
