William Masson Jr., 93
William J. Masson Jr., 93, formerly of Dekalb, Illinois, and Iowa City, Iowa, died Wednesday, December 27, 2006 in St. Anne Center, Rockford, Illinois, after a short illness. He was born March 20, 1913, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Dr. W.J. Masson and Dora Montgomery Masson. He attended Washington High School and Junior College and received his Bachelor's of Art degree at the University of Iowa. He married Genevieve Lundvick on February 22, 1941, in Gowrie, Iowa; she passed away in 1997. He taught for several years in Iowa High Schools before returning to the University of Iowa to finish his Master's of Art, and Ph.D. degrees at the University of Iowa. During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy where he taught in the Yeoman School at Great Lakes Naval Base, Illinois. He returned to the University of Iowa as a Professor and Head of the Business Education Department through 1968. Until his retirement in 1979 he was Associate Dean in the College of Business at Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, Illinois.

Survivors include two sisters, Helen Barker and Catherine Smith, both of Washington, Iowa, three sons, Robert (Diane) Masson of Rockford, Illinois, Joseph Masson of Dekalb, Illinois, and John (Amy) Masson of Longmont Colorado, eight grandchildren Chris (Erik) Mitchell, Eric Masson, Jeff Masson, Joseph Masson, Sarah Masson, Stephanie (Marvin) Rodas, John Masson, Jessica Masson, and three great grandchildren, Allysa Kaltved, Ali Rodas, and Cody Rodas. Predeceased by his parents, wife Genevieve, son Thomas, and brothers Robert and Dave.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, January 2, 2007 in Holy Family Catholic Church. Visitation from 9:30 until time of service at the church. Burial in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Iowa City, Iowa. Memorials to be established at a late date. Arrangements by Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd.
