Thomas “Tom” R. Alberhasky, 82, of Iowa City died peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family, Wednesday, November 22, 2006, after an extended illness.

Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:30am, Thursday, November 30, 2006 at St. Mary’s Church with Rev. Jeff Belger officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. The family will greet friends Wednesday from 4 to 7pm at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice or Regina Education Center c/o the Catholic Community Foundation.

Tom was born July 20, 1924 in Iowa City, the son of George and Irene Dwyer Alberhasky. He attended St. Mary’s School and served in the US Navy for three years during World War II. On October 11, 1950 he married Marilynn Dautremont at St. Mary’s in Iowa City.

Tom was a longtime Iowa City homebuilder, cement contractor and land developer. He, along with other colleagues, established Iowa City Ready Mix. In 1964, he built Bon-Aire Mobile Home Lodge which he owned and operated until his death. Tom possessed a strong work ethic resulting in his accomplishments that are visible in the Iowa City area and the University of Iowa.

Tom was a member of St. Mary’s, where he had served on the Parish Council. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Iowa City Noon Rotary, Coralville American Legion, Iowa City Chamber of Commerce, the University President’s Club, Scottsdale Elks Club and the University of Iowa Athletic Club, where he was a regular attendee of the Tuesday Night Attitude Adjustment Club.

He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be remembered for his generosity and kindness. Tom enjoyed time with his family and friends both here and in Phoenix, where he and Marilynn spent their winters. Some of his fondest memories were of their many travels abroad and the spent on the golf course.

Tom is survived by his loving wife Marilynn and their three children, Gary (Linda)
Alberhasky of Iowa City and their children Sydney, Sloan and Skylar; Becky (David) Hansen of Austin, TX. and their daughter Ariadyn; Kevin (Sandy) Alberhasky of Iowa City and their children Brandon, Lance and Blake; two sisters, Irene “Bunny” Dyer of Iowa City and Audrey (Jim) Redding of Lakewood, CA. and one sister-in-law, “Allie” (Joe) Alberhasky of Iowa City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Joe, one sister Fran, and his mother-in-law, Elberta Dautremont.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr. Gerald Clamon of the University of Iowa Holden Cancer Center and the staff and volunteers of Iowa City Hospice, especially Sara K. RN for her compassionate care during Tom’s illness.
