Del L. Tinkey, 77, of Coralville, Iowa died at Lantern Park Care Center on September 26, 2006 following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services to celebrate Del’s life will be held at 11:00AM Friday, September 29 at Zion Lutheran Church, 310 North Johnson Street, Iowa City. Pastor Harris Hostager and Pastor Doug Cue will co-officiate.
Visitation: Thursday, 4-7 p.m. at Lensing’s Oak Hill, 210 Holiday Road, Coralville and after 10:00 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be at Oak Hill cemetery in Coralville following the luncheon. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice or to Zion Lutheran church.

Del was born November 14, 1928 in Alexander, Iowa, the son of William and Grace (Pals) Tinkey. He graduated from Alexander High School and attended Mankato State. He served his country with the US Army from 1950-1952.

Del married Charlotte Severtson on June 2, 1957 in Alexander, Iowa and went to work for Williams Pipeline. The company transferred him to Iowa City in 1961. After a few years of enjoying the area, he built a home for his family and decided to enter the homebuilding business. His wife, Charlotte, died in 1979.

On October 25, 1981, he was united in marriage to Mardell Franklin. Del was a long time active member of Zion Lutheran Church and a member of the Iowa City Homebuilders Association. He served on the Johnson County Board of Review for 16 years, enjoyed flying his airplane, playing golf and spending time with family and friends.

Del is survived by his wife Mardell; his sons, Byron and friend Jody of North Liberty, Lon and his wife Cathy of Iowa City, Bret and his wife Karen of Cedar Rapids, Duane and his wife Wendy of Des Moines. Step-sons; Cary John Franklin of Edina, MN, Cal Franklin and his wife Kim of Plymouth, MN, and a step-daughter Candace Ahern and her husband Tom of Medina, MN. Grandchildren are Zach, Sam and Keanan Tinkey, Kelsey, Ryan and Tess Ahern, Sydney, Kelley, James, Lila and Leo Franklin; Sisters Loraine Halfwassen and her husband John of Belmond, Dilene Orpen of Northwood and Jollene Jaacks and her husband Marvin of Alexander.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Lois Bryan, and a brother, Loren Tinkey.
