Bernice Kathryn Albrecht, 87, of Iowa City, passed away Tuesday August 15, 2006 at Mercy Hospital following a sudden illness.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday August 18th, 2006 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. The Very Reverend Rudolph T. Juarez will officiate. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Iowa City. Visitation will be at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Ave, Iowa City from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, where a rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. and a Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church or Senior Dining in Bernice’s name.

Bernice was born June 19, 1919 in Holbrook, IA to James G. and Laura L. Griffin Donohoe. She was raised in Holbrook and graduated from Parnell High School. She married Wesley W. Albrecht on June 18, 1953 in Iowa City.

Bernice was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, the Eagles Club and the Vicariate Naim Club. She was a volunteer with many organizations around Iowa City. She was recognized as volunteer of the year and received an award from former governor Terry Branstad

Bernice is survived by four children; Margaret Roskup (Ed) of Wellman, James Albrecht of Coralville, Kathryn Ellyson (Greg) of Iowa City, and Alice Albrecht of Coralville, six grandchildren; Marty (Kirsten), Jamie, Ryan, Lindsey, E.J., and Abbie, Three step-children; Karen Glick of North Liberty, Gary Albrecht (Carol) of Ladora, Les Albrecht (Sue) of Tiffin, twelve step-grandchildren, twenty-two great step-grandchildren, four step great-great-grandchildren and three sisters; Vicki Malloy of Holbrook, Marvine Donohoe of Iowa City, and Roseanne Russell of Eugene, OR.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wesley, two brothers, a sister and a stepdaughter.
