From undated 'Iowa City Citizen' obituary, probably October 20, 1916:
MRS. JOHN LLOYD BURIED FRIDAY.
The last tribute of respect and love was paid to the late Mrs. John B. Lloyd Friday, at 2 o'clock, at a brief service at the family home, conducted by her pastor, the Rev. Sylvester E. Ellis, pastor of the Methodist church. A ladies' quartet rendered three selections. A large number of Masons and Eastern Star friends were present, besides a host of friends from the church of which she was a member.
Ellena Walton was born February 27, 1871, in Illinois, near Kewanee, and died October 18, 1916, at the age of 45 years, 7 months and 21 days.
At the age of 13 she came to Iowa and settled in Iowa county. In July 1888, she was united in marriage to John B. Lloyd. To this union were born three children, Mamie, Elsie and Grace, who with the father, survive her.
The first few years of her married life she spent on a farm in Iowa county. In 1891 she united with the Methodist Episcopal church and has been a faithful member since that time. In 1895 the family moved to Wellman, Iowa, which place was her home for the following fifteen years. While residing at Wellman she became a member of the Order of Eastern Star and the Rebekah Lodge. During this time she was honored with the highest office in each order. In 1910 she removed with the family to Iowa City and this has been her home since that time. Mrs. Lloyd was a good mother, a devoted wife, and a splendid neighbor. She was quiet and unassuming and the elements of gentleness and kindness were so splendid in her character that to know her was to love her.
