Shirley Ann Rocca, 69 of Iowa City died peacefully, Thursday, June 15, 2006 at Mercy Hospital with her family by her side after a lengthy illness.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Visitation will be held on Monday from 4:00 to 8:00pm at Lensing Funeral Service, a rosary will be conducted at 7:30pm at Lensing’s. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Regina Catholic Community Foundation or The American Diabetes Association.

Shirley was born December 16, 1936 in Iowa City, the daughter of Frank and Mary Laurine (Donahue) Leeney. She was a graduate of St. Patrick’s High School, Iowa City. On June 1, 1957 she married Philip Rocca at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Shirley chose to stay at home to raise her children and was later employed for the Iowa City School District, K-mart and also Econo-Foods. Shirley enjoyed baking, reading true life murder mysteries, playing euchre and also an occasional visit to the casinos. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Shirley’s family will remember her as a loving wife, mother and grandmother who always put others needs before her own, she will be greatly missed.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Philip Rocca of Iowa City, three sons; Andrew Rocca and his wife Terri and their children, Nicholas, Joel and Benjamin all of Iowa City; Gerald Rocca and his wife Sharri and their children, Allison and Tiffany all of Waseca, MN., Philip Rocca, Jr. and his wife Paula and their children Philip III, Paige and Peter all of Iowa City. She is also survived by her three sisters; Lucille (Frank) Boyd of Iowa City, Kay Schneberger of Monticello, MN and by Marlene Fuhrmeister of Cedar Rapids, IA.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers and sisters, Delores, Francis, Eugene and Rose Mary.
