John Frees

OXFORD -- John Frees, 98, of Oxford died Wednesday evening in an Iowa City rest home after a short illness.

Requiem high mass will be Friday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's in Oxford. Burial will be in Mt. Cavalry Cemetery. Rosary will be recited Thursday at 8 p.m. at George L. Gay Funeral Chapel.

Mr. Frees was born March 26, 1870 in Davenport, the son of John and Barbara Frees. He married Jennie Jones in 1890 in Oxford. He was a building contractor till his retirement in 1956. Mr. Frees was a member of St. Mary's in Oxford and a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters.

Survivors are two daughters, Marie of Oxford and Marguerite Novak of Chicago; a brother, Ed Frees of Iowa City; four grandhchildren and six great granchildren.

His wife and one sister died earlier.
