Five Children Shot

At the village of Frank Pierce, Johnson County, Sherriff Jones tried to evict George Smith from his place, under a warrant, when John Smith, brother of George, discharged a shot gun full at the head of the officer. The lead scorched the face of the Sherriff, but struck a group of children across the street. Erick Zager and Elsie Cupp were fatally hurt. Bessie Cupp, aged 5, Herbert Zager, aged 11, and Charles Pertric, aged 15, would probably recover though they were all fearfully hurt.
