Duane met Jerod at the apartment complex where Jerod lived when he first moved to Council Bluffs. He and Jerod were the "bachelors" of the building and hung out together after work and on the weekends when Jerod wasn't at the farm. He resides in Council Bluffs.

Emily met Amber at the University of Northern Iowa in the dormitory. Both girls were seniors and lived across the hall from each other. Emily and Amber share many moments on the golf course together. Neither one of the girls are good enough to go professional but they sure have fun together. Emily finds traveling to Council Bluffs a vacation. Emily works for a child care facility and resides in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Keri met Amber her senior year at the University of Northern Iowa. The girls lived across the hall in the dormitory. Keri and her roommate, Emily, and Amber would eat supper together. Amber would wait patiently in their room for Keri to come back from class. To pass the time away Amber always made an effort to "organize" Keri's side of the room whether it be hiding her teddy bear or moving around her notebooks and textbooks. Somehow Keri always knew Amber had been in her room. Keri is now a Director of Aquatics for the YMCA in Huntsville, Alabama.

Kristin met Amber for the first time at a family dinner at the family farm. The two see each other quite often at the farm or for family functions. One memory, Kristin gave Amber a birthday card along with a couple of other items as a gift. Amber opened the card and confetti spilled all over the floor. For now on Amber is very careful when she opens a card from Kristin with curiosity of what neat confetti will be in the card. Kristin lives in Shelby, Iowa with her family and is a Pharmacist.

Susan met Amber in Kindergarten and has remained friends for all these years. Susan had awesome birthday parties and Halloween parties at her house. For one of Amber's birthday's the group of girls made an effort to let everyone know that Amber was celebrating a birthday. Susan tied red ribbons in Amber's hair and placed childhood pictures all over the front of her shirt. Amber got to wear a birthday hat and was paraded through the ped mall in Iowa City. Susan makes an effort to make every birthday memorable. Susan is finishing her last year of Veterinary School at Iowa State University. She resides in Ames with her husband.

James is Jerod's first cousin. They grew up on farms 3 miles apart and are just over a year apart in age. They played with each other at family functions and got into mischief often. James resides in Avoca, Iowa.

Kevin met Jerod at Reuter's. They were both from Council Bluffs. Since Jerod was the "newbe" he did a lot of odd jobs with Kevin. They soon started working on projects after work together and on weekends. Kevin resides with his family in Council Bluffs.

Rebecca met Amber in Mrs. Porter's classroom. Becca was in first grade while Amber was in second grade. Amber sat in front of Becca and would always get into trouble due to her talking to her. She lived in Hills; just down the street, so Amber had a playmate during the summer. Becca would finish her chores and ride her bike by Amber's house as a sign to go play. Amber would leave quietly telling her mom where she was going and always said "don't tell Adam!" About an hour into their play, Adam would wake up from his nap and knew exactly where to find his sister. Rebecca lives in Coralville with her husband and works for the University of Iowa.

Clint dated and married a friend of Amber's from choir at Salem. Clint and Jerod were the engaged spectators at choir functions, they started socializing while the girls practiced or performed. They have a ball when they are together and the girls are occupied. Clint resides with his wife in Terril, Iowa.

Watch Our Love Grow Into A Beautiful Marriage

OUR STORY
In Amber's words:

On April 8, 2001, a rainy Sunday night I reluctantly went out with my roommate Sarah, and student teaching friends to play pool at McGee's Bar in Council Bluffs. Sunday is Single's Night at McGee's. The girls and I were playing pool, when this really cute guy walked in wearing Wrangler jeans with rain dripping off the brim of his white Stetson. I just had to know his name. Sarah said "oh, that's Jerod, you have talked to him on the phone before", and told me to introduce myself to him. I was shy and refused to do the honors. So, Steph and Sarah introduced us, Jerod and I made simple greetings and he went on his way to look through the karaoke notebook for songs.
I was so distracted by Jerod's presence that my friends were getting frustrated with me because I couldn't concentrate on my pool game. Finally Steph suggested for me to go ask him to dance and she volunteered to play pool for me. I said "no, I'll just wait till he asks me."
I got enough nerve to ask him to dance after I watched him dance with someone else. Jerod reluctantly accepted my request to dance. However, I didn't know he had planned to ask me, util the DJ called out "JJ" and handed Jerod the mike. Jerod began to sing "Could I Have This Dance" to me as we danced to the music and held each other close. We started dating later that week and just knew that we were made for each other.
Jerod proposed to me on the evening of October 30, 2002, in the small kitchen of his apartment. He handed me a bag from Sears and said ti wasn't a tool. Jerod picked out the engagement ring himself. He claims the ring had an "amber" hue when he saw it in the showcase. When people ask how we met it is humorous to share that we met at a single's night in a dive bar. This just goes to show that you never know where you will meet your soul mate.

ABOUT THE TABLE DECORATIONS
The tree of hearts in the center of the table represents the love and support from our friends and family.
The hearts are homemade paper with marigold seeds pressed into them. Please take the hearts home with you and plant them in the ground.
Water and sunlight represent the love and support from our guests which in time grow into a beautiful flower.
The flowers represent the unity in marriage that you witnessed today.
You should also find pieces of amber in the center of the table. This is real amber from Mexico.
Jerod found that you can get custom M&M's from their website. We were able to order the amber M&M's in bulk.

WHAT IS AMBER?
Amber is a delicate, fossilized tree resin that often locks in secrets from the past. Amber is available in a wide variety of colors, the most common color ranging from yellow to orange, less common color include red, green, blue, violet and black.
Throughout documented history amber has been washing up on the shores of countries lining the Baltic Sea. Now you can find amber in the Dominican Republic, Myanmar, and Mexico.
Amber is sometimes heated to create deeper colors, or heated in oil to remove cloudiness.
Amber can also be heated to produce an aroma and fragrance.
We would like to thank Yon Schoenmaker for leading us in prayer before the meal. We hope that you will enjoy the celebration! Take advantage of the food, dessert, beverages, dancing and the other guests. Those of you from far off places, thank you for traveling to our wedding! We really appreciate everyone coming to celebrate our special day!
Thanks, Jerod and Amber

KEEPING THE TRADITION
Our cake knife was used in Larry & Marilyn's wedding in 1972. The cake knife has been engraved on the handle for both weddings.
The cake server was purchased by Jerod on ebay. Check out the cake server because it has amber for the handle.
The flower girl basket that Abigail carried in our wedding was also carried in Larry & Marilyn's wedding. The flower girl was Diana Culver, Amber's aunt.
The Kringle served with the cake is a Danish pastry that is a family tradition in Jerod's family. It is quite often to see Kringle at a family celebration within the Johnson's.
The diamond earrings worm by Amber were given to her by her mother as a new tradition to continue with the next generation.
The songs "I Was There to Hear Your Borning Cry" and "As You Go On Your Way" are both popular Lutheran songs. These songs were chosen to represent Jerod's religious background.
