Miller aiming high for Golden Hawks

Rachel Miller has some lofty goals for the Mid-Prairie softball team.
Although she's one of just two seniors on the squad this year, she's determined to lead the Golden Hawks back to the state tournament, and to a Class 2A title while they're there.
"Our main goal is to be state champions this year," Miller said. "We set the bar pretty high."
Miller went to state with the 2008 team as a pinch runner and was the designated hitter last year when they returned to Ford Dodge. But she hasn't won a state title.
"We try to stay focused, and we know that we do it," she said. "We try to push everyone to the best of our ability and get everyone pumped up."
Softball is the only sport for Miller, who also will play more third base this year. She also played on club teams.
"It was the extra league time that helped me focus more," she said. "I really didn't enjoy the other sports."
A member of the National Honor Society with a 3.68 grade-point average, Miller will leave sports behind to study nursing at Iowa in the fall.
"I decided I probably needed to focus on studying in college," she said. "Hopefully, we'll leave it off with a good season."

My biggest asset to the team is: Being on of the only two seniors and having played with the girls for six years. We've been playing together for a really long time.
My superstitions are: Our coach tears off athletic tape, and we all wear a piece.
Best sports experience: Going to state in 2008 and 2010.
People would be surprised to know that I: Have extra bones in my feet. I had to have one of them removed; it was causing tendinitis.
Three words that describe me: Funny, caring and smart.
Dream profession: Nurse Practitioner
Dream Car: Ferrari
People say I look like: Shay Mitchell, who plays Emily on "Pretty Little Liars."
Person I most admire is: My former softball coach, Kelsey Kidwell
My team/personal goals for the season are: Win state and hit about .400
If I had $1 million I would: Save most of it, and (spend the rest on) just the necessities.
