A Cane With A History.

The editor of the Washington Press has received from A. F. Pay, of Huron, South Dakota, a rattan cane that has a history. The stick was carried by Governor Kirkwood in the Kirkwood-Dodge gubernatorial campaign. Gov. Kirkwood afterward gave it to Senator Harlan, who later gave it to Gov. Gear. By Gov. Gear the stick was transmitted to Lieut. Summers of the Fifth Iowa, who passed it on to Mr. Pay. The latter now gives it to Mr. Burrell, to be added to his collection of curios.
