Parrot Routes Burglar

A pet Mexican parrot, owned by Mrs. I. Schooley of Iowa City, officiating as an amateur detective, probably averted the loss of much valuable property belonging to its mistress. A burglar entered the Schooley residence, opened a secretary, extracted a purse containing about $10, and was pursuing his investigation further, when Polly began to screech choice bits from it unusually large vocabulary, such as “What are you doing?” “What are you doing?” “Hello, Schooley!” “Hello Schooley!” The birds screams summoned Mrs. Schooley from a distant part of the house to the invaded room just as the frightened burglar slammed the front door and fled, leaving a gold watch and other valuables untouched.
