In Response To: family changes (William Dick)

I did some looking for you and located her obituary which tells the story. She died in Colorado as Ada Simpson, but is buried next to her first husband, Leigh Van Patten, in Fairfield.

Nelson remarried to Mrs. Minnie (Good) Howell on 7 October 1903 in Red Oak, Montgomery, Iowa. They moved to Seattle and then settled in Fresno, California where Minnie died on 16 February 1924 and Nelson Simpson on 14 December 1939.

Obituary:

Mrs. Nelson M. Simpson of this city died in Denver, Col., Thursday, after an illness of several years from tuberculosis. She had gone to that state recently, where she had previously spent many months, in the hope that a change of climate might prolong her life. The remains were brought to this city for interment Saturday. They were taken directly from the C. B. & Q. station to the Evergreen cemetery, where a brief burial service was conducted by Rev. H. O. Spellman, pastor of the Congregational church.

Ada M. Simpson was the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James E. Wilkins, and was born and grew to womanhood in this community. She was married to Leigh R. Van Patten in this city November 25th, 1885. The husband died here February 20th, 1895. Two children by this marriage survive the mother, Leigh and Hazel Van Patten. September 29th, 1897, Mrs. Van Patten was married to Nelson M. Simpson. Her age was about thirty-two years. In the community in which Mrs. Simpson had spent practically all her life she had many warm friendships. She was a bright and intelligent woman and in all the relations of life discharged her obligations with fidelity. Her protracted illness gave opportunity part of her associates. There are many friends in the community who will sincerely mourn her death. The sorrowing husband and family wish to thank the friends who did so much to lighten their grief during the days of illness and hour of death.
