Hi, In 1845 there was a notice at the: "Iowa Territorial Gazette and Burlington Advertiser (Burlington, Iowa) Page: 3mail"
of mail for Asahel Albert Lathrop and for Philip Lathrop. Asahel Albert was a "prominent" Mormon who made his way from Ct to Il to Mo to Ia to Ut and finally to Ca. Philip, on the other hand went from Ct to Il to Ia to Mo. There is no evidence that Philip was a Mormon nor was he related to Asahel. They were from different cities in Ct. Philip was living in Naples, Il at the time he made this trip to Jefferson County.
I am trying to figure out why the trip to Jefferson and how he would have known Asahel. Did they just bump into each other in Il Asahel talked Philip into visiting Ia? In 1845, was Jefferson County a gathering place for Mormons? So many questions..Thanks. Keith
