I looked in the microfilmed issues of both the Fairfield Ledger and Fairfield Tribune from August 27, 1880 into the September issues but did not find a formal obituary for Abel.

Both the Ledger and Tribune did have death notices grouped together. The Ledger issue was not very legible but appeared to be about the same wording as the Tribune; the Fairfield Tribune issue on Thursday, September 2, 1880 (Pg. 3 Col. 5) listed:

"In Lockridge township, Aug. 27th, of hepetic abscess, Abel Stephenson, aged 18 years, 11 months and 27 days."
