Thank you so much, Mary. I just found both George Kness and Lewis Wickersham in Charles Fulton's History of Jefferson County. They are both listed on pg 235 as voters in Polk Township, so no doubt they knew each other. In 1847 did residents submit some sort of application for a marriage license or a marriage return when married there?
