In Response To: Glover 1812 (Kay Miller)

The first white man to set foot in Jefferson County IOWA was in 1835, having come in search
of honey. From a "Brief History of Jefferson
County" I will type off several sentences.

The SAC and FOX Indians held the land until the
pioneers came to meet and mingle with them for a brief time and then to crowd them out of it. Colonel William G Coop, a leader among the pioneers helped to maintain the good relations with the Indians and it is recorded that they were always friendly. unquote

Our county was established on 4 March l839 and
was to have been named Coop, but he
modestly declined and it was named in honor
of Thomas Jefferson.

In what state do you find the Glover family in l830 and 1840 census index? Jefferson County has
no l830 (not settled) and they are not in our
county's alphabetical list for l840

Sorry I am of such little help. Verda Baird
