John Henry Canaday

CANADA, CANADAY, CANNADAY

I am looking for information on my Great, Great Grandfather -- John Henry Canaday. I know that he was born in 1822 in Virginia and was buried in the Spencer Cemetary near Stockport in 1879 along with my Great Grandfather Emsley Folley Canaday who was born in Glasgow in 1861 and died in 1942. I suspect that John was a member of the Friends (Quaker) Church in Salem Iowa. The information I am looking for is the parents of John Henry Canaday because I do not know where in Virginia he came from. It is kind of confusing because of (the Virginia Territory) at that time included Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina. I have information about the Canaday family migration from the Virginia territory to Tennessee, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois but at those times most of the places were territories and not yet states. Our Surname was also spelled in many different forms and sometimes they referred to people by first and second names and sometimes not. Any help you can give me with local information would be wonderful. I also am going to visit the Friends church in Salem, Iowa
