Isaac Voorhees, d. 21 Jan 1865

VOORHEES, DUTTON

I am trying to find where my great-great-grandfather Isaac Voorhees (Vorris) was buried. He was living in Black Hawk Township in the 1860 census, along with his wife Julia Ann, step-sons King and Enos, daughter Eliza Jane, and son Ephraim (my ancestor). His son (Isaac) Ephraim's family bible indicates that "Isaac Voorhees Sr. died on Jan 21st 1865 in the 65th year of his age", but it doesn't indicate where he died or was buried. Some time after the 1860 census, the family moved to Missouri (they show up in the 1870 census in Jackson Twp, Daviess Co., living with Isaac's son - from an earlier marriage - Abram Voorhees). But it seems likely that they didn't pick up and move from Iowa until after Isaac's death.

I emailed Bill Rathbun, and he indicated that there are no Voorhees in the Blue Point Cemetery or any nearby cemeteries. Any information that anyone might have would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Dick Voorhees
