In Response To: Indian Camp (Peggy Patrick)

JEFFERSON County had many friendly Indians until l833 when the "Blackhawk Purchase" took place. Then by l838 the Indians were pushed further west into
Wapello County.

The first bridge in county was possibly about l858 when the east/west railroad came thru this area. Everyone prior to that just forded the many small creeks in this county on wagon trails.
