Dear Helen:
You are out of luck in Jefferson County courthouse
records. There were children born to the Claud and Florence Calhoun, John and Alta Calhoun, Lawrence & Hazel Calhoun ,Leonard and Goldie Calhoun and to N.J. and Etta Calhoun

Keep in mind prior to July l907 when recording was mandatory, it has been estimated from 1880 to l907 that onl6 l5% of births and deaths were in
that only l5% of births and deaths were recorded
in county records. So the child definitely could
have been born here with no doctor that reported the birth or there was none present.

My own mother born in l903 in Burlington Iowa
had no record, nor did my mother in law born l900
in Louisa County Iowa. You are not alone in your
