I read an old newspaper article from the Dallas Morning News
about the Dierks Lumber empire. The article states that
Dierks Forests, Inc and Dierks Lumber & Coal were founded
in Walnut, Iowa in 1880 by 4 Dierks brothers, German immigrants.
They were Hans, Herman, Peter & Heinrich (Henry) Dierks.
They expanded into Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas City, and to
various other states around the country.
Dierks sold out in 1969 to Weyerhaeuser Lumber.

I looked at Jefferson County on the usgenweb site, but there's
nothing about the history of the Dierks empire. Is there more
than one Walnut, Iowa? Do you know anything about this, or
about the family? I'm also trying to find if any of them served in
the Civil War.
