Death came yesterday afternoon to a well known Van Buren county farmer. He is R. B. SKIRVIN, 87, who passed away at 12:15 p.m. at his farm home three miles northeast of Birmingham. He had been seriously ill since Sunday.

Last rites will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Weston Behner funeral home with Rev. Jay Waterman of Salem in the Batavia cemetery.

R. B. SKIRVIN was born September 27, 1863, at Indianola, Iowa, the son of the late Henderson and Susan MARTIN SKIRVIN. He was united in marriage on January 23, 1907 to Nellie May COPELAND. The wedding took place at Fairfield.

SKIRVIN had been a farmer all his life and was a member of the Christian church at Bladensburg, Iowa. He had made his home in the Birmingham community for the past 22 years.

Besides his wife,he is survived by the following six children: Edwin, Leonard and Lewis, all of Birmingham; Merwin of Fairfield; Mrs. Ruth ORRIS, Lockridge; and Darrel, serving with the U.S. armed forces in Japan.

Skirvin was preceded by his parents, five brothers and three sisters.
