BATAVIA. David M. SHIPLER, 16, sophomore student at Cardinal Community HS, fatally injured Wed. afternoon when hit by a car on Main Street in Batavia. (Picture of the boy) He was rushed by ambulance to the Jefferson Co. Hospital in Fairfield where he was pronounced DOA. His death was caused by multiple fractures and other injuries. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold SHIPLER, Batavia. The father is publisher of the "Eldon Forum" and "Batavia Beacon" newspapers.
The accident took place at 3:35 p.m. Wed. near the old Christian Church building which is converted to a Town Hall. Young SHIPLER started to cross the street in n.w. direction to talk to his sister, Colleen, and other young people. He walked or jumped into the path of a car traveling south on Main St., driven by Jerry KITCHEN, 16, also of Batavia....
David M. SHIPLER was born Oct. 25, 1954, in Ottumwa, son of Harold and Juanita WHITMORE SHIPLER. Spent his entire life in the Batavia Community... Campbell Funeral Chapel in Batavia. Survived by parents, a brother, Daniel, serving with the Armed Forces in Germany; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Ann NORDYKE, Abingdon; and Colleen, at home; grandparents, Mrs. Vera SHIPLER, Batavia; Mr. and Mrs. Harvey WHITMORE, Batavia, and one greatgrandfather, P. D. MORLEY, Batavia.
