BATAVIA NEWS. In the death of H. C. PICKEREL, Batavia has lost one of her old settlers and one of the two or three remaining soldiers of the Civil War.

Henry Clay PICKEREL was born July 27, 1844. He died at his home in Batavia Jan. 9, 1923, age 78-4-12. He served in Co. B, 8th Iowa Cavalry during the Civil War. He has lived around Batavia for almost 50 years. On July 9, 1868, he married Miss Elizabeth McQUERRY; nine children of whom three have preceded him in death.

Remaining are his aged wife, one daughter, Mrs. Sheridan BECK of Eldon, and five sons, Ed of Hedrick, William of Birmingham, Clyde of Ramson, Iowa, Logan of Troy, and R.J. of Batavia. Mr. PICKEREL was of a family of 16 children, eleven girls and five boys. They have all passed away except three sisters: Mrs. Nancy LONGSBERRY and Mrs. Josephine LONGSBERRY of Kansas and Mrs. BICKFORD of Batavia... Interment in Batavia City Cemetery.
