Verner D. KOONS, former banker and former resident of the Fairfield community, died March 12 in California of a heart attack. He was a brother of Mrs. Helen FRESCOLN and Mrs. Ruth SUTHERLIN, both of Fairfield, and Mrs. Mildred HARMON, Eldon.

Born in 1891 on a farm near Cross Lanes in Jefferson County, son of Henry and Ann LEWARK KOONS. He attended school in Batavia and Parsons College where he played baseball and football under coach W. P. Berkstresser. He attended Brown's Business College and was later cashier of banks in Libertyville, Batavia and Eldon. Veteran of World War I.

Following his retirement he moved to California. Member Methodist Church. Survived by his widow, the former Malah HILLEARY, New London; one son, James H., Santa Barbara, Calif.; one daughter, Mrs. H. MUMMA, Rancho, Calif.; four grandchildren; and his three sisters in this area.
