HENRY KOONS, BATAVIA, DIES AT HIS HOME

Live all but three years of his life in Jefferson county

Henry KOONS, life-long resident of Jefferson county and well known former business man of Batavia, passed away at his home there at 8:15 a.m. today. He had been in failing health for the past year and seriously ill for two weeks.

Funeral services will be held at the Campbell funeral home at Batavia Sunday at 12:30 p.m. with Rev. H. H. Stark in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery in Fairfield. Masonic lodge, of which he was a member, will have charge of services at the grave.

Mr. KOONS was born November 30, 1863, in the Cross Lanes community near Batavia. He was the son of the late Dillon and Jemima KOONS. He spent his entire life in that area except for three years when he lived in Boulder, Colo. He was a farmer and business man all his life.

He married Anna LEWARK in April, 1890. He was a member of the Batavia Christian church and of the Kilwinning lodge, No. 198, A. F. & A. M., Batavia.

Mr. KOONS is survived by his wife: one son, Verner, Britt, Ia.; four daughters, Mrs. Ralph SUTHERLIN, Batavia; Mrs. Leonard FRESCOLN and Mrs. Vern CAUGHLAN, both of Fairfield; and Mrs. Floyd HARMON, Eldon. Sixteen grandchildren and one great grandchild also survive.

Six of the grandsons and one granddaughter are now serving in the armed forces.

Mr. KOONS was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and three sisters. The body was taken to the Campbell funeral home in Batavia and will remain there until the service Sunday.

Buried in Lot 3rd.187. Anna died in 1950 and is buried beside him.
