Mrs. Clara F. KURTZ died last night at Jefferson County hospital. Stroke. Born July 28, 1879 in Jefferson County, daughter of the late Nicholas and Martha KURKA GELSKI. Reared and educated in Jefferson County, and married to Thomas J. PECK Apr. 18, 1899; he died Feb. 6, 1900. Married, 2nd, Jan. 27, 1904, John S. KURTZ who died Mar. 2, 1939. Member St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Buried St. Joseph’s Cemetery, East Pleasant Plain. Children surviving: Thomas J. PECK, Fairfield; Mrs. Harry OTT, Davenport; John N. KURTZ, Brighton; Mrs. Herbert OTT, Davenport; Raymond KURTZ, Brighton; Mrs. Lester WEENIKE, Stockport; Mrs. Leonard SHUPPY, Brighton; Donald KURTZ, Montpelier, Iowa; and the following stepchildren: Mrs. Angeline VOORHIES, Fairfield; Gerald KURTZ, Packwood, and Myron KURTZ, Brighton; eight grandchildren, one great grandson; four sisters; Mrs. Lewis GELSKI, Brookfield, Mo.; Thombia ROBINSON also of Brookfield, Mo.; Mrs. M. B. FRITZ, East Pleasant Plain; MRS. Leo FRITZ, Washington, Iowa; and three brothers: Felix GELSKI, Litchfield, Ill.; Ignatious GELSKI, Brookfield, Mo., and Thomas GELSKI, Moberly, Mo. Two sons died in infancy. She was a resident of Fairfield for the past seven years.

Area Deaths
Mrs. Clara KURTZ

FAIRFIELD -- Mrs. Clara S. KURTZ, 75, died in Jefferson County hospital at 11:50 p.m. March 31. Death was due to a stroke, suffered on March 13.

Mrs. KURTZ lived at 400 West Hempstead street. She was the former Clara GILSKI (sic - GELSKI), and was born in Jefferson county on July 18, 1879. On April 18, 1899, she was married to Thomas J. PECK, who died in 1900. On Jan. 27, 1907, she was married to John S. KURTZ, who died March 2, 1939.

Mrs. KURTZ was a member of St. Mary Catholic church. She is survived by four sons and four daughters: Thomas J. PECK, Fairfield; Donald KURTZ, Montpelier; John N., and Raymond KURTZ and Mrs. Leonard SHUPPY, all of Brighton; Mrs. Henry OTT and Mrs. Herbert OTT, both of Davenport; and Mrs. Lester WEENIKE, of Stockport.

Also surviving are two stepsons and a stepdaughter; Gerald KURTZ of Packwood; Myron KURTZ, Brighton, and Mrs. Angeline VOORHIES, of Fairfield, and three brothers and four sisters; Felix GILSKI (sic), Litchfield, Ill.; Thomas GILSKI, Moberly, Mo; Ignatius GILSKI, Mrs. Lewis MROGENSKI, and Mrs. Albia ROBINSON, all of Brookfield, Mo.; Mrs. M. B. FRITZ, East Pleasant Plain, and Mrs. Leo FRITZ of Washington, Ia.

Services will be held at St. Mary church at 9 a.m. Monday. burial will be in St. Joseph cemetery, at East Pleasant Plain. The rosary wil (sic) be recited at the Hoskins funeral home at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
