Samuel C. GILLIS, one of the oldest residents of the city, died from heart trouble at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Chas. BURNAUGH in Ottumwa Sun. Mar. 25.

Born near Batavia Sept. 18, 1846. April 11, 1868, married Eliza Jane PHILLIPS at Bladensburg, who died Aug. 22, 1922. Eight children, five survive: Mrs. Cora NEWELL of Wyoming; Mrs. Stella BURNAUGH of Ottumwa; Winnie of Agency; Verne of Fairfield, and Frank at home. Interment in Batavia Cemetery.
