DEATH OF A GOOD MAN. Eleazer STEWART was born in Adams county, Penn., March 17th, 1831. When three years of age he went with his parents to Ohio, where he lived until two years after his marriage to Rebecca ARMSTRONG, January 29th, 1853. After a few years in Knox County, Ill., he came to Jefferson County, where the home has been since November, 1860. He was, therefore, one of the “before the war” settlers in this county. He died at his home in Libertyville May 12th, 1903, having reached the age of seventy-two years, one month and twenty-five days. A large company gathered at his funeral and a long procession followed the remains to the grave. When men, busy as farmers necessarily are this late spring, leave their work to travel many miles to a funeral it tells of the high esteem in which the deceased was held…..He was a Christian man who, in his quiet way, lived as an example to those about him. In early life he became a member of the Presbyterian church at Troy, Ohio, and when he came west he brought his church membership with him as a needful part of his life. He was elected an elder in the church at Libertyville in 1881 and did his duty well until old age and sickness rendered him unfit for that office and he resigned Feb. 3d, 1903, three months before his death. He leaves a wife and three daughters, Mrs. T. FORDYCE and Mrs. CONTERMAN of this county, and Mrs. HAWKMAN of Grinnell. There remains also a brother in Ohio who has passed four score years and is in feeble health.
