DEATH OF MRS. Z. T. SMITH.

Mary Elizabeth, wife of Z. T. SMITH, died at her home in this city Thursday morning at 4:10 o’clock, after an illness of three weeks. Her maiden name was Mary E. HUTTON, and she was born on a farm near Libertytille March 17th, 1856. She was left an orphan at an early age and soon after her parents’ death came to this city and for twenty-seven years made her home with Mr. and Mrs. James WELDAY, who educated and made her one of their family. March 17th, 1897, she was married to Z. T. Smith, who is left to mourn her loss. Mrs. SMITH had been a member of the Presbyterian Church for a number of years, and was a devoted and consistent Christian woman, and all who knew her held her in high esteem for her many excellent qualities and virtues. Four brothers and a sister – Levi of Wallace, Idaho; Asa of Polk County; Jacob of Omaha, Neb.; Stephen of Liberty Township, and Mrs. Laura ABRAHAM of Locust Grove Township – survive her. Many friends here and elsewhere will sympathize with the husband and family in their bereavement. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. F. MAGILL at the home on West Burlington Street Saturday morning at 10 o’clock, and the remains were laid to rest by the side of those of her parents in the Dunkard Cemetery in Des Moines Township.
