SHIPLER. Samuel Hutton* SHIPLER was born Feb. 7, 1833, at Wheeling, West Virginia, died Sept. 28, 1918, aged 85 years, 7 months, 21 days; came to Jefferson County with his parents when eight years old. Settled on 160 acres of timberland near the present Dunkard church, where he grew to manhood and was married to Sarah BROWN, daughter of John U. BROWN, Sept. 4, 1856. To this union thirteen children were born, four having preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his death his aged companion and nine children: Mrs. Cynthia MARIES, Bloomfield; Mrs. Blanch LONG, Libertyville; Mrs. Melissa FISHEL, Batavia; Mrs. Maggie BARBER, and Mrs. Iva JAMES, Fairfield; Lewis W., Batavia; Maturen, Fergus Falls, Minn.; and Sadie and Delilah, at home, besides fifty grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. The children were all at his bedside when he passed away except Maturen. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. C. CAUGHLIN at the Brethren church at 2:20 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 29, and burial was made in the Brethren cemetery.
