OBITUARY. Samuel SHIPLER was born Feb. 7, 1833, at Wheeling, West Virginia, and died Sept. 28, 1918, at four o’clock a.m., aged 85 years, 7 months, and 21 days. He came to Jefferson County, Iowa, with his parents when eight years old and had resided in the same county for seventy-seven years. He was married to Sarah Brown, Sept. 4, 1856. To this union were born thirteen children, four having preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn, his aged companion and nine children: Mrs. Cynthis MAYRES, of Bloomfield; Mrs. Melissa FISHEL, Batavia; Mrs. Blanch LONG, Libertyville; Mrs. Maggie BARBER and Mrs. Iva JAMES, Fairfield, Iowa; Lewis Shipler, Batavia; Maturen, Furgus Falls, Minn.; Sadie and Delilah at home. The children were all present at his bedside before he passed away, except Maturen. He united with the United Presbyterian Church at Libertyville in early life and held his membership with the same church until his departure. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. C. CAUGHLAN of the Batavia M. E. church, Sunday p.m. at the Brethren church in Des Moines township. Interment was in the Brethren cemetery. A quartet consisting of Mrs. W. S. CAMPBELL, Mrs. M. E. COUGHLAN, M. A. DAVIDSON, and J. C. CAUGHLAN, furnished music.
