DEATH OF A PIONEER. Our old friend, Dr. Fordyce, tells us of the death of Peter Lutz. He was a pioneer settler of Iowa, coming to this state in 1844, residing in Des Moines County two years and then removing to the farm in Des Moines Township, where he died on the 28th inst. Mr. Lutz was born in Huntingdon County, Penn., March 10, 1811, and in his 21st year was married to Miss Sarah Kyle, who still survives him. Twelve children were born to them, sight of whom, three sons and five daughters, are living. In 1849 he made the overland trip to California. When a young man he united with the Tunker or German Baptist Church, and later was chosen to the ministry, a position he occupied at the time of his death. Mr. Lutz was a pillar in the church, a man of more than ordinary ability, and a living example of the truths he taught. He was buried from the church near his home, the services being conducted by Elder Harmon, of the Tunkers, assisted by Elder Fordyce, of the Christian Church, and the attendance of friends, who braved the cold weather, indicated the esteem in which Father Lutz was held.
